Minecraft 1.18.1 was released to fix security issues and other bugs.

1.18.1 Patch Notes — Technical Changes
To improve visibility, the fog has been modified. This has been done by making world fog a cylindrical volume and rendering it further away from players.
With 1.18.1, a problem that caused low bandwidth players to experience timeout errors when connecting with servers has been resolved.
Minecraft 1.18.1 Patch Notes — Bug Fixes
The problem of nests and bees despawning was an issue that was solved.
Render distance in 1.18 was two whole chunks less than the setting. This is now fixed.
Another issue was that observers were being activated without receiving any updates. This issue has also been solved with the release of 1.18.1.
How to play on 1.18.1
Check that the Minecraft Launcher is loaded in the latest version. You will see a drop-down box that offers options for both the ‘Latest version’ and ‘Latest snapshot.’ You will need to ensure that you are in the ‘Latest Release’ section and display 1.18.1, as shown below. Close the launcher if it shows 1.18.
