Yoko Taro says the Nier Series is over, which means a new entry is coming.
Despite its introduction a decade ago or its gentle introduction with Draken games 18 years ago, it is almost unimaginable how popular the Nie series has become. It was once a cult series, but it is now a multimillion-selling series with gacha games and crossovers, as well as all the merchandise you could shake a stick at. This makes it seem like a perfect time for Yoko to announce that the series is ending.
He is, naturally, a joke-liar, something that Yoko often does, and well.
This holiday message is from Yosuke Saido, Yoko Taro, and Keiichi Okabe, the current series heads. Yoko claims he doesn’t have any more ideas, so he’s done. This is immediately followed by “That may prove be a lie.”
Although they don’t say directly, “hey, a new Nuer game” is in the works, they come very close to it. Yoko is a comedian who jokes about things like this. With Nier Replikant wrapping up and Voice of Card wrapping up, it makes sense that he’s now working on another project. This is especially true when you consider that the series sold 7 million units between the two previous titles.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t there soon. The video’s three participants mention that they are waiting with anticipation for Nier’s 15th Anniversary — which will be in 2024.
