It was quiet for a while around rumours of the Surface Laptop 4. There are now new signs. These are from Bluetooth certification. They indicate that the next generation will have Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6.
We reported in November 2017 on the launch Surface Laptop 4. This is expected to occur in early 2021. New information has now been released about the device. Many indications are that the Surface Laptop 3 successor will soon be available for sale.
The discovery of a device that included Microsoft Surface Laptop 3+ was made. The online magazine Windows Latest reported this with a reference back to insider information. This was in addition to the report that the Surface 3+ will be available in March or April 2020. Sources close to the situation say that the Surface Laptop 4 could be on the market by March or April.
Bluetooth certification has been granted to four models of the Surface Laptop 4 with model designations 1952, 1953 and 1958, respectively. It also includes a link that takes you to the Surface Laptop 3 product page. This suggests that the Surface Laptop 3 could be its successor. However, it is surprising that the “Model 1950”, which was last year tested by South Korean product safety Safety Korea, doesn’t appear on the new list.
According to the Bluetooth SIG listing the next-generation Surface Laptop will have Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi Fi 6.
AMD Versions are on the horizon
Surface Laptop 4 will be available this year with more AMD options. Both the 13.5-inch notebook and the 15-inch version of the notebook will use the new generation of AMD chips. The 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 currently uses the AMD Core processors. The 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3 is only available with Intel Ice Lake CPUs.
